Here’s to 2014. With your half-written journals, never-ending to-do lists and your quests for perfection, you have been waiting for this day all year. Twenty-thirteen was a tough year. It was really hard, wasn’t it? And as with every new year, you fill up with excitement because somehow there is promise in the unchartered territory.
2014…the year that will provide answers to your problems!
When you will wake up, that magical morning, exercise and are completely ready to take on the day…
When you finally get your finances in order…
When you stop the busyness of life to nuture what’s really important…
When the good news outweighs the bad news.
2014, so much possibilty! (End False Advertisement Here.)
Dear One, I am writing to you, not because I want to shade the sun’s warmth from your face. I am writing because I want you to stop looking up and start looking ahead. Right now, the climb seems to stretch on infinitely. How will I get there? The mountain is steep and I’m already tired. But dear one, stop exhausting yourself with this one mountain.
Stop. Breathe. And look left. Do you see the horizon???
The journey is not just one mountain. And the year ahead isn’t about tackling the imperfection that you can’t get past. It’s about forgoing the maps and the plans that you’ve set for yourself. Stopping the madness and enjoying the journey.
Dear One, you’ve set such high standards on this one mountain that you are missing the scenery. It’s not about fitness goals, financial security or whatever daydream that seems a world away. It’s about taking the next step in faith. Faith isn’t security in this world. To some, it looks like risk. Why give up what I can see only to throw away my plans and take a path less paved?
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
He’s already traveled it and He knows the way to go. That doesn’t mean that some days won’t be foggy or that you won’t get scraped or bruised. It just means that you don’t have to worry. Because even in the fog, He’s there with us. He loves us. Thank God, He loves us.
And when you stop. And look right or left or ahead…you will, indeed, feel that love.
Sidebar: While writing this post, I’ve been listening Adele’s album, 19. I’ve never actually listened to the full album but clicked on the title, “Daydreamer”. As the music carried on, I ended on this song. My dear one, I’m not sure who you are and I was never intentionally writing to anyone in particular (except myself). But friend, if I only ever communicate one thing, it’s that when I stopped and listened (ironically, at age 19), I heard my sweet, sweet Lord wooing me to Him with songs of every genre. And tonight, this is for both you and me. The lyrics are perfect for the one climbing the mountain in the rain. Stop and listen.
Now close your eyes and look ahead with a new kind vision. What do you see?
Here’s to 2014, with open hands and stepping forward in Faith. Sincerely, with love….

“Make You Feel My Love”
And the whole world is on your case,
I could offer you a warm embrace
To make you feel my love. When the evening shadows and the stars appear,
And there is no one there to dry your tears,
I could hold you for a million years
To make you feel my love.I know you haven’t made your mind up yet,
But I would never do you wrong.
I’ve known it from the moment that we met,
No doubt in my mind where you belong.
I’d go hungry; I’d go black and blue,
I’d go crawling down the avenue.
No, there’s nothing that I wouldn’t do
To make you feel my love.
The storms are raging on the rolling sea
And on the highway of regret.
The winds of change are blowing wild and free,
You ain’t seen nothing like me yet.
I could make you happy, make your dreams come true.
Nothing that I wouldn’t do.
Go to the ends of the Earth for you,
To make you feel my love
To make you feel my love
